Throughout history people have attempted to answer this question. The earliest recorded efforts were found in Astrology, where it was believed that the alignment of the heavens influenced the formation of behaviour, with four groupings symbolized by, Earth, Air, Fire and Water.

Next came Hippocrates, with his concept of the four temperaments - Choleric, Phlegmatic, Sanguine and Melancholy.

Then in 1923, Dr. Carl Jung wrote the book Psychological Types and described the Intuitor, Thinker, Feeler and Sensor. His was the most sophisticated scientific work done at that time.

Knowledge has advanced, and today there are dozens of varied concepts on behavioural differences. But they all have one common thread; the grouping of behaviour into four categories.

Ned Hermann, the eminent brain researcher, tells us that both the right and left sides of the human brain have a cerebral hemisphere and a limbic hemisphere, each with its own special function. He says, we tend to develop some brain parts more than we develop others, and this predisposes us toward certain predictable patterns of behaviour.

iMA Styles and Strategies is a practical way to apply all this research to day to day living. To reduce tension and increase co-operation and compatibility among people.
